Irvine is your typical cowboy ^_^. Well, not really, but whatever. He's a sharpshooter from Galbadia Garden and joins Squall and the gang during the mission to execute Sorceress Edea. There are only 2 things in life that mean to him the most: guns and women (hey, don't ask me why, he said it himself in the game!).
Even though he as that "I'm-so-cool-and-don't-care-about-anything-at-all" personality, when all the pressure goes on his shoulders, he can't take it very well. Actually, Irvine just pratically loses it. I mean, he won't think straight. AND he loses it. No more Mr. Tough Cowboy.
So, that's how we know him as a softie at heart. He's the only one of the Orphanage gang who still has his memories intact (and he has a very long memory span), so when he finally meets the others again, he can't believe that they forgot everything!
Irvine has a reputation of being a flirt when it comes to women. The comes immediately known when he meets Quistis, Rinoa, and Selphie ^_^. But despite that, he has a thing for Selphie. Selphie tends to ignore him, but he really doesn't mind and is persistent at winning her heart.
What is Shot? This is Irvine's Limit Break. Depending on the ammo that you have, you can choose between eight different shots to attempt in a limited amount of time.
|SHOT TYPE||WHAT IT DOES|
|Normal Ammo (Normal Shot)||This is your typical ammo. It does moderate damage and reloads at a regular speed, and you'd have to shift your aim between targets. Nothing special about it.|
|Shotgun Ammo (Scatter Shot)||This is the same as Normal Ammo except that Irvine hits every enemy on-screen.|
|Dark Ammo (Dark Shot)||Each time you hit the enemy, Irvine can increase the chance of giving the enemy of an abnormal status effect like Sleep and Blind.|
|Fire Ammo (Flame Shot)||This is a fire-based attack that gets every enemy on the screen. It works best against those weak against Fire, but not those that absorb it.|
|Demolition Ammo (Canister Shot)||This shot reloads VERY slowly, but it hits the enemy a LOT. The only downside (besides the reloading time) is that you can only hit one enemy at a time.|
|Fast Ammo (Quick Shot)||Machine gun, machine gun, machine gun. ^_^ Just be VERY careful of running out.|
|AP Ammo (Armor Shot)||This is similar to the Demolition Ammo, but it reloads a lot faster.|
|Pulse Ammo (Hyper Shot)||The best ammo and the rarest to find. It packs a LOT on an enemy. Normal, weak ones can kill it in one shot.|
Now the only ways you can get the ammo is by refining, buying, or finding the ammo. Most come from refining rare items (the best ones in particular).
|RARE ITEM||AMMO CREATED WHEN REFINED|
|Screw||8 Normal Ammo|
|Normal Ammo||1 Fast Ammo|
|Shotgun Ammo||2 Fast Ammo|
|Bomb Fragment||20 Fire Ammo|
|Red Fang||40 Fire Ammo|
|Fuel||10 Fire Ammo|
|Poison Powder||10 Dark Ammo|
|Venom Fang||20 Dark Ammo|
|Missile||20 Demolition Ammo|
|Running Fire||40 Demolition Ammo|

|Sharp Spike||10 AP Ammo|
|Chef's Knife||20 AP Ammo|

Like in most of the futuristic Final Fantasy's, Irvine's weapon is a gun.
